Overview
Prime Mediation is a mobile-first platform designed for a US-based law firm aiming to streamline small legal disputes using AI. By leveraging a custom GPT model trained to assess legal information, the app offers users a fast, affordable and non-binding outcome before they decide whether to take formal legal action. I was responsible for designing the full user and admin experience.
Problem
In the US, court systems are overwhelmed, with many cases dragging on for years over relatively minor disputes. The client identified an opportunity: if a model like ChatGPT can pass the bar exam in the 90th percentile, why not use that intelligence to help resolve low-stakes legal issues faster and more affordably?
The challenge was to design a tool that could guide users through structured case submission, deliver AI-generated case reviews, and support full mediation when necessary, all while maintaining a high standard of professionalism, usability and data security.
Solution
I designed two distinct experiences: one for users and one for the law firm.
On the user side, the app features a clean, guided flow where each party can register, upload documents and provide case details. A custom GPT model reviews the input and generates a written outcome, accessible for a small fee. If both parties wish to continue, they can schedule a Zoom mediation session directly through the app. The integrated video tool allows the mediator to control the session, including private side conversations or placing users on hold.
For the law firm, I built a back-office dashboard to manage all ongoing cases. Admins can view client profiles, track payments, update case statuses (e.g. open, closed, settled), and add internal notes. They can also check for criminal records, access uploaded documents and maintain a clear overview of the entire mediation pipeline.
The result is a scalable hybrid solution that blends AI-powered efficiency with human legal oversight, freeing up time for complex matters while helping users avoid unnecessary court proceedings.
